Statement of Inclusion and Equity

The Waldorf School on the Roaring Fork stands with: all members of the LGBTQIA community, all persons of color, black, brown, indigenous, and Asian and Pacific Islander

All are welcome members of our community.

We, the Waldorf School on the Roaring Fork, recognize the history and ongoing impact of racism and prejudice on our continent and the injustices and discrimination faced by black, brown, indigenous, asian, pacific islander, and other minority communities including members of the LGBTQIA community. We understand that inclusivity and equity is a journey of both moral and educational imperative. As such, we take seriously our responsibility to bear witness to what is happening in the world, to elevate the voices of marginalized people, to change the course of inequities, and to break down structural and social prejudice in all forms where it exists, particularly in Waldorf education.

We know that we have far to go as a school and as individuals in our understanding of oppression and social justice. Advancing inclusion and equity for all is one of the guiding forces behind our education and the way that we wish to conduct our day to day living. These priorities make equity and inclusion central to our work and aim to bring us closer to the world that we want for our students.

The School's leadership groups will be spending more time than previous to this period of time asking the following questions:

  • How do we participate, consciously or unconsciously, in systemic racism or structural injustices?

  • What meaningful actions will we take in service to the leadership and agency of people of color and marginalized communities?

  • Where are the possibilities for us to prioritize racial and social justice in our work to further Waldorf education?

We invite you to join us in exploring these questions and in elevating your own commitment to social justice initiatives.   The Faculty continues to work in committee and outwardly to constantly improve ourselves and our relationship to the people of every country of the earth.

We collectively acknowledge that the Waldorf School on the Roaring Fork is located on the traditional, ancestral, and contemporary lands of Indigenous people. The campus resides on land that was cared for and called home by the Núu-agha-tʉvʉ-pʉ̱ (Ute) people. In offering this land acknowledgment, we affirm tribal sovereignty and will work to hold the Waldorf School on the Roaring Fork accountable to American Indian peoples and nations.
