Coming Events @ WSRF
We have so many magical events coming up at Waldorf School on the Roaring Fork! As the weeks get busier, we hope this overview will help families plan for the exciting weeks ahead.
All PreSchool to 2nd grade families are invited to join on Friday, November 10th starting at 5:15pm. The festival with music and a story will begin promptly at 5:15 and the walk will begin at 5:45pm. All families will gather quietly in the Hall with their lanterns. Here are key reminders for the Lantern Walk:
This is a quiet event and is not a social time
Always keep your child with you
Please keep all phones and artificial lights in pockets (no video or photography)
Dress warmly but bring layers you can take on and off
When in the Hall, please seat your child on your lap
Come with full bellies, already haven eaten
Bring a lighter
Please bring a donation of canned food or condiments to the 2nd grade food drive
What is the Lantern Walk?
When the days become short, the sun goes down earlier and the stars appear in the early skies, and the children, according to an old custom, would walk with lanterns through the streets in the early evening singing. This custom is worth renewing, especially if the children can make their lanterns themselves and are thus a part of creating their own light to carry.
As the world grows darker the inner light of human beings wants to shine forth. It is no coincidence that the lanterns are often decorated with suns and moons and stars, motifs which also appear in the songs and in our sky to bring light. The lantern walk is a reminder of the light we all carry within as we ease into the dark, cold months of winter ahead.
