What: Michaelmas is our annual fall festival that celebrates the changing season as we move into Fall. It shares the journey of Saint George and the dragon (in the pageant) as an image of courage and bravery. The festival is a reminder to all of us, students and adults alike, as we ease into the cold months of winter, that we all carry courage and light within us to tackle the challenges ahead. To learn more about the role of festivals at our school visit: https://waldorfschoolrf.com/festivals
The pageant will begin at 8:45. Parents are welcome to attend! Following the pageant, all students will be participating in team building exercises and games, which will include cross-grade participation and the introduction of the Social LIteracy Program’s 8th grade CREW- a student leadership program that is a part of our Social Literacy Program.
Parents and guardians are welcome to stay for the entire day or come back for the meal that will begin around 11:45.
We need volunteers to help Ms. Pratt with food preparation, delivery and clean up. Additionally we need insta-pots or other electric pressure cookers in order to prepare the soup for the meal. If you are able to help please contact Ms. Pratt here.
Finally, we need your gently used cardboard. Please drop off boxes in the breezeway of the upper grades hall.

Waldorf Education Spotlight
We are kicking off this year’s spotlight section with an introduction to AWSNA’s (Association of Waldorf Schools North America) 7 principles of Waldorf Education. These principles articulate the most important values that inform the policies and practices of Waldorf schools in North America and are held as a central tenet of our schools’ accreditation process. The first two principles are included below and keep an eye on future spotlight sections for the additional principles:
Waldorf Schools support freedom in teaching within the context of the school’s shared agreements: The educational program of each Waldorf school is founded on Rudolf Steiner’s insights about the growing child, informed by the teachers’ ongoing study and their professional development in Waldorf education. Individual teachers work creatively with curricular, pedagogical, and assessment components of the program out of freedom and in a way that serves their individual students, the class as a whole, and the school community.
The conscious development of human relationships fosters individual and community health: Enduring human relationships between students and their teachers and among the children themselves are at the heart of Waldorf education. The teacher’s task is to work with the developing individuality of each student and with each class as a whole within the context of the entire school. These relationships gain in depth and stability when they are cultivated over multiple years. Healthy human relationships with and among parents and colleagues are essential to the well-being of the school.
