Luke Wander
Mandarin Teacher and Outdoor Education Coordinator
Luke grew up in the farming country that surrounds Asheville, North Carolina. He attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, receiving undergraduate degrees in History, Asian Studies, and English Literature. After spending six months in Beijing as a student, he felt called to return to China and teach. He landed in the southeastern city of Jiaxing, where he taught Canadian History. In 2016 he relocated to Frisco, Colorado to fulfill a dream of teaching Chinese in the United States. It was there that he developed a love for Outdoor Education and student-centric teaching, all while getting to speak Chinese with his students. A move to Carbondale beckoned in 2022, and when the opportunity to teach Chinese at WSRF presented itself, he had to say yes. When he is not teaching, Luke enjoys reading, walking, gardening, cycling, fishing, and doing crossword puzzles.
