WSRF Opening Plan for the 2020-21 School Year
Opening Plan for the 2020-21 School Year
Greetings to you all and hoping that his end of July finds you basking in the amazing sunshine we are blessed with. Yet, no matter how glorious the sun is at the moment, we have challenges ahead of us. We can think of no better way of greeting these hurdles than arising as a community to greet them with stamina, resiliency and great fervor. It will not take one or two or even twenty of us to make this year unfold with health and beauty, but every single one of us, from young to old.
There was a commentary in the New York Times recently speaking to the topic of resiliency. The theme of the commentary centered on, " How we navigate a crisis or traumatic event (and the coronavirus has many of these characteristics of trauma because it is unpredictable and uncontrollable) depend, in large part, on how resilient we are. Resiliency is the ability to recover from difficult experiences and setbacks, to adapt, move forward and sometimes even experience growth." There is no doubt that as we begin this school year, it will require the tenacity of each of us to live into the heart of community and support one another.
With that, the following is the school’s effort to articulate how we will begin the year in these uncertain times. The guidelines and recommendations for school operations are evolving; the latest changes were provided by the Garfield County Health Department at 11pm last night. The Health Department offered some excellent feedback and much positivity about what we have placed together drawing from multiple excellent resources.
You will more than likely have many questions regarding these plans, and we welcome those. This is where it all begins. Excellent questions will bring us closer to clarity on approaches and bring the plan to a place where it can be considered a whole community project. By next week at this time, we will be offering an update to this document, perhaps in the form of an FAQ so that upon roll out of the plan, the necessary details are added, explained and clear for all to comprehend. There is no doubt that we will be learning and adjusting as we go.
Thank you for support of the community and your cooperation in following protocols to ensure the safety and well-being of each one of us. Our success is dependent upon the individual actions we each make. If ever there was a year to live into the school's mission and vision, this is indeed the year.
With much gratitude to you and to working together,
Tim Connolly, Faculty Administrator
Larry Smith, Business Administrator
Anne White, Community Development Director
